Questions Do managers like Janis Blancero face a more complicated decision when evaluating the personal requests of employees versus evaluating employees’ individual work performance? Explain.
It is quite obvious that the evaluation of the personal requests of employees is more difficult than the evaluation of their individual work performance. This is because the evaluation of personal requests requires a great deal of analysis in gray areas, whereas the evaluation of employees’ individual work performance is pretty cut-and-dry. As the policies for personal requests are not fully described or even set up, employees are feeling that they should be and that some of them are being treated unfairly.
a. Should Adobe establish a policy for granting flexible work schedules? Explain.
Yes. Flexible work schedules would allow for all employees to take care of personal needs outside of work, leave no employees out, and would be a fair addition to the current policies.
b. If you answered yes, what might that policy contain?
It would allow all employees, regardless of whether they are pregnant or experiencing another life issue, to work around that life issue without causing jealousy or hard feelings coming from other employees.
3. If you were Janice Blancero, how would you resolve this dilemma? Explain.
I would set up the policies discussed in the previous two questions for the reasons noted in those responses.
