Marriage – Assignment Example

Write a one page essay on your expectations in marriage. Comment on how your expectations fit with your knowledge of adult development. I expect that there would be proper and better understanding in partnerships after marriage. My vision is that there is greater chance for love and adjustment in it. It is possible to tackle the daily hassles, provided that the couples are trying to analyze all chances of communication gaps. If the marriage relationship is to be fruitful, I think there should be some challenges in family life which can be tackled through planning together. These challenges may vary from financial to social or from emotional to sexual. These challenges can keep the partners always happy and engaged, improving their inter personal relationship. Up to marriage one might have been taking decisions ones own but after the marriage it is not possible. True love in marriage necessitates clear understanding and if there are some issues they will easily tackle them. The reason is that pure love is never based on demands. Love extends to forgiveness.
These are personal views. But in general, as a partner I expect my partner to be socially adjustable and coping with the prevailing systems in the society. Mingling with friends, giving due respect to parents and elders, sticking to proper dress code, and finally it comes to mutual respect in between partners. If possible and if there are, our kids should be brought up with ultimate parental care. My partner should give complete care in raring up the kids in such way that they are sociable and acquiring a cosmopolitan outlook. I think these qualities come to children as they witness them in the behavior of their parents. If we go through the thoughts of Erikson ‘’our personality traits come in opposites. We think of ourselves as optimistic or pessimistic, independent or dependent, emotional or unemotional, adventurous or cautious, leader or follower, aggressive or passive. Many of these are inborn temperament traits, but other characteristics, such as feeling either competent or inferior, appear to be learned, based on the challenges and support we receive in growing up” (Harder ). As Erikson has pointed out most the marriages are taking place in the young adulthood. It is clear that the traits of this period are the product of a long process which has its roots in the different stages of childhood developments. So in the union of marriage I expect there cannot be corrections in personality traits. What I expect is forgiveness enriched with love.
