Question 1: Information that is noteworthy is information that is crucial to my argument. If the information is essential to expanding upon my own thoughts and justifying, proving or disproving my thesis, then the information is noteworthy. This can also be information that can be used to grab the reader’s attention or may be useful transitions into other arguments or counter-arguments.
Question 2: A quotation should be used only if the words that the author has used would lose their quality and effectiveness by paraphrasing or summarizing. A paraphrase can be used to explain the details of the author’s work or argument without actually including specific quotations from the original work. Finally, a summary should be used for the most basic of information and it encompasses the entire work instead of just one specific key element or point. Depending on the usefulness of the information, each technique should be utilized according to how the information will be best presented to the reader while not reducing the quality of the paper or creating unnecessary confusion.
