Waste Not – Assignment Example

Introduction: Waste and garbage management is the common problem of big and overly populated cities. According to Environmental Protection Agency, USA, it is very important to plan waste management efficiently in order to utilize the resources effectively.
Three Main Components of Waste Management:
The three main components of waste management are Biodegradable waste, Recyclable waste and Non-Recyclable waste.
Biodegradable Waste is a type of waste management in which the waste is treated which is originating from animals or plants. This waste can be found in municipal solid wastes, food, green and paper waste. Other wastes in this category include manure, human waste, sewage etc.
Recyclable Waste is a process in which products and items are reused or recycled. In this process glass, metal and plastic made materials are recycled. Moreover paper is also used to be recycled and reused.
Non-Recyclable Waste is another component of waste management. In this process of waste management all households must have a bin for non-recyclable wastes like packaging, bags, cardboard, mirrors, sanitary towels, disposable plates, cups etc.
When we talk about waste management components, we can see that all above mentioned methods are extensively adopted at different levels depending on the need.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Modern-day Landfills in United States:
Nowadays landfills are very common in all overly populated cities where waste management techniques are planned and practiced. There are many advantages and disadvantages of modern-day landfills in United States.
Advantages:
Landfills are great way to get rid of all the trash. Moreover, when these landfills are filled, they offer opportunity for the land to be built and reused as a farming land. Landfills also help in removing organic material which can be further used for natural gas production. Furthermore, it can also be used as compost.
Disadvantages:
Beside benefits, there are several disadvantages of a landfill. It is often considered that landfills are dangerous and cause damage to plants and animals. So, these are not considered good for environment. Moreover, landfills can pollute water, soil and air. Various dangerous chemicals may add into water table. They can further attract small insects like rats, cockroaches and mosquitoes which may further cause diseases in people. It is also considered that landfill can boost up the chances of global warming because of the release of methane gas.
Recycling:
As already mentioned recycling is very common all over the world. There are many ways in which we can recycle materials around our house setting. These ways positively affect not only the consumer but also the environment.
Five Ways of Recycling Material:
Five important and widely accepted ways of recycling material are discussed here. These ways can be used around house conveniently.
Paper Recycling: Paper recycling is very common all over the world because of its extensive use. Recycled bins are created in various settings. However, it is not wise option to put shredded papers in bins because they take up more space. So, bags are placed next to recycling bins for shredded papers.
Aluminum Can Recycling: For such type of recycling, blue and gray metal drums are created in different settings. In some houses settings and buildings, volunteers collect these aluminum cans.
Plastic Recycling: Nowadays soft drinks and water bottles are very common. These bottles are picked up for recycling or volunteer collect them in bags.
Battery Recycling: With advanced technology, batteries are very common nowadays. In most of the house settings, special collectors or buckets are used for the collection of waste batteries. It is better to cut the entire terminal before disposing off the battery. Always place in buckets issued by Pollution Prevention Program. Try to manage each battery separately.
Metal or Cardboard Recycling: In many settings and buildings metal and cardboard boxes are created next to garbage dumpsters. Here cardboards and metals products are collected and further recycled.
Benefits of Recycling: There are several benefits of recycling materials. Recycling helps to conserve valuable resources and protect the overall environment. We can also formulate usable products from those materials that are considered garbage so in this way recycling helps consumers in a positive way. Furthermore, we can promote a healthy and clean environment for our kids. With the help of recycling, we can also eliminate non biodegradable waste materials as well. Last but not the least recycling is a great way to be healthy.
Conclusion:
So, we can find that waste management is very common nowadays and people who use all the above mentioned articles always prefer some waste management guides. These guides must be preferred to minimize the risk of environmental issues like pollution for the consumer as well as environment.
