Organizational Decisions The success of an organization is attributed to the effective implementation strategies. However, there are several factorsthat cause negative effects on organizational decisions. The quality of a decision depends on the decision making tactics and the effectiveness of firm’s internal communication. One process of decision making is known as satisficing that focuses on achieving proposed criteria rather than solution. This method often flaws as it does not addresses the real problem that an organization faces. Another reason why many tactics fail is that decision makers do not have adequate access to information or they are to confront with many constraints to identify the real problem or the outcomes of the strategies. This condition can be termed as bounded rationality. Obviously, paucity of information will affect the decision making process. Group decision making is comparatively effective as it avoids employee resistance to changes. It will also enhance organizational cohesion and will create a feeling of collective responsibility. Therefore, modern organizations tend to follow group-decision making process perhaps a ‘bottom up’ methodology. Furthermore, garbage can model of decision making is found more effective because it is the subsequent effect of some real causes. In this context, the decision is not a preplanned process but an inevitable product of specific issues. Once the problem is identified, it can be addressed by implementing the most appropriate tactics.
Lords Exporters is a midsize leather manufacturing company with five production units at different locations in UAE. Although the begging of the firm was very simple as a cottage industry, in a short time it grew enough into a considerable exporting company with a good pool of labor force. Telephone and fax was the only technological backup that the Lords have had until they launched a web-based Human Resource Information System (HRIS). This modern technological backup has enabled the firm to store every valuable data regarding employees in its specially designed software (Noe, 49). It is highly useful for the company for its decision making process. It has also become an integral part of a company’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). For instance, as the department has instant access to information regarding the potential candidates, all HR functions including employee recruitment, retention and motivation have become easy. The internal communication and knowledge management became more effective as the employee-employer interaction was enabled by the new system. The system is also cost effective and time saving because it has transformed all manual labor like accounting, auditing, reporting, and data collection into computerized process. Since it is easy to collect feedback and complaints, now the company can make immediate settlements.
