Business Ehthics – Essay Example

Business Ethics Business ethics is basically the standard of how the people in the workplace or in an organization act toward the given set of rules. It determines the good and the bad through the rules and regulations set by the organization that benefits all its key players. Commonly, examples of business problems that an organization might face include business secrecy, harassment and conflict of interest (Ferrell et al., 2009).
Business secrecy- It arises when confidentiality of the business is being divulged by an employee to a third party. It is considered unethical because most companies require and include confidentiality of information within the organization in the contract; hence, doing such acts like sharing confidential information can break the contract and is subject to its rules of punishment (Ferrell et al., 2009).
Harassment- It is one of the most controversial issues in the workplace. It is unethical because of human rights violation. Aside from it is punishable by law, it is really inappropriate to conduct such acts because it integrates with the complexities of other issues such as discrimination and the like. Employee relations might mislead to this issue so it is important to maintain the working relationship in a corporate manner to avoid misconception (Ferrell et al., 2009).
Conflict of interest- It is described when a personal matter is linked with the individual’s business interests. As such, a person who owns his personal housing projects is in charge of developing the plan for highways and road construction (at work) chooses to link this plan to his housing project routes. This makes the route longer and more costly because irrelevant areas are included just to complete the road construction (Ferrell et al., 2009).
Dilemmas in business ethics described above are just examples of many ethical issues present today, it is then suggested to practice good leadership among the leaders of the organization and strongly set rules and regulations that will benefit them as a whole and punish unethical acts accordingly (Ferrell et al., 2009).
