Community Involvement Essay – Essay Example

Community Involvement: The Sub Shop Experience Community Involvement: The Sub Shop Experience Sub shops are strategically designed to cater to customers who need a fast and healthy meal. The submarine sandwhich chains in the country have continued to increase due to the variety of choices coupled with the ease of start up in the business in terms of funding and operating skills. With a proliferation of diversely scattered sub shops around geographical locations in the US, one needs to implement and devise unique strategies to initiate growth and market the business. In this regard, with a newly opened sub shop offering basically the sub sandwich with a twist (giving customers the option to choose from a variety of ingredients they want to be included in the subs) and a side dish to go with it (fries or salad), another relevant strategy would be to seek the assistance from a local community organization that can enhance product awareness. The essay hereby proffers and identifies a community organization that can assist in initiating growth and awareness of the sub-shop’s products to its target market.
Community Organization
One of the most prominently visible fraternal organizations in the US is Elks. Its mission is “to inculcate the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization, and to provide for its government, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America will serve the people and communities through benevolent programs, demonstrating that Elks Care and Elks Share” (BPO Elks: Our Mission, 2010, par. 1).
Among the programs that Elks promote are scholarships, Americanism, Hoop Shot, drug awareness, youth activities, veteran programs, and community investments program (Elks: Our Programs, 2010). In this regard, as proprietor of the newly opened sub shop, one envisions to tie-up with Elks through their youth activities program, initially focusing on sports through the Hoop Shot Program.
Sub shop would coordinate with Elks a Hoop Shot Program, where a contest is scheduled within the state. Sub shop would distribute flyers of the newly opened shop within the region and indicating its products with stipulated prices. Children within the age range of the Hoop Shot Program (8 to 13 year-olds), would be given discounts at the newly opened sub shot within the scheduled event. In turn, Elks would announce the partnership through social media in promoting the benefits of the activities, as well as availing of discounts in the shop.
As defined, social media “is a category of online media where people are talking, participating, sharing, networking, and bookmarking online" (Ron Jone’s definition as cited by Ward, 2010, par. 3). Through the official website of Elks, the endeavor and the newly opened sub shop products and partnership would be shared and participation could be solicited with ease and wider access.
