The majority of job postings for low level positions were for HR Generalists (SHRM). A few other positions were posted such as HR Analyst and HR Assistant. HR Generalists typically carry out the day-to-day operations of the human resource department. Generalists implement policies and procedures, handle routine interactions with employees, and do not have much in the way of decision-making authority. The other low level positions generally implemented policies and procedures without much interaction with employees outside of human resources. Most of these low level positions required a bachelors degree, although an associates degree was only required for a few positions. These positions required an average of three years of work experience. Most of these positions did not list an annual salary range, but the average of those that did was around $30,000 (SHRM). None of the positions advertised as HR Generalist listed a salary.
Most of the mid-level positions were advertised as HR Manager (SHRM). HR Managers generally make adjustments to policies and procedures and implement policies. HR Managers also assess performance and have some decision-making authority. Most of these positions required a bachelors degree in either human resources or business administration. These positions also generally required five years of experience in a low-level HR position and a year or two in a position of greater responsibility. Only a few of the advertised positions listed a salary range with an average of $45,000 per year (SHRM).
Most of the high-level positions were advertised for HR Directors (SHRM). There were a few other job titles such as Senior Manager or Regional Manager. The job descriptions for these positions generally involved strategic planning and the development of new policies. These positions all required a bachelors degree, although a masters degree was generally preferred. Most of these positions required five years of experience in a lower-level HR position with an addition five years of experience in a mid-level HR position. Only a couple of the positions listed a salary range with an average of $75,000 per year (SHRM).
