If You Were A Public Health Nurse For A Day, What Would You Like To Accomplish Why – Essay Example

Public Health Nurse Being a public health nurse would endow me with several duties which I would have to fulfill necessarily. If I became a publichealth nurse for a day my duties would revolve around the aspects of improving health in this world. This would be done primarily for the betterment of the society and individuals living in it.
My first task as a public health nurse would be to create awareness amongst the people of the society. I would set up banners and promote methods through which the individuals could be provided with important information regarding health. The effects of smoking and other lifestyle factors would be highlighted in this awareness program. Teenage smoking would be targeted by me in these awareness programs so that our coming generation does not have to face with chronic problems of bronchitis and asthma. Similarly prevention of chronic diseases such as obesity would also be highlighted by me as a public health nurse. I would give out charts of a healthy diet to individuals so that these individuals do not have to face the problem of obesity. Schools would also be targeted by me as dietary schedules in these schools can cause many children to suffer from the problem of obesity. Similarly I would try to enhance the work done by other nurses and inform them as to how they should care for the patients. I would also highlight other lifestyle diseases which can be caused by diet and other environmental factors for the general public. In other words I would create a platform through which the prevalence of disease in the society can be reduced (Carrión 1987; Institute for Career Research 2008).
Being a public health nurse it would be my duty to complete all this tasks in one single day. Creating awareness amongst the masses can be easy if means like banners and televisions are used. Information can be passed to individuals through charts and brochures.
