Recation – Essay Example

Running Head: RECATION Recation Manifest Destiny was a term coined in 1840’s to justify the Mexican-American War and was often used by the politicians and leader of that time (U.S. Mexican War, 2010). It was a popular belief of that time that it was America’s mission to expand its territory from Atlantic to Pacific Ocean. America has fought many foreign wars since 1989 which include World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Iraqi War, etc (Americas War, 2010).
I personally believe that none of these wars reflect manifest destiny as the reason for these wars was not expansion but democracy. One may say that the Iraqi war was the practice of manifest destiny but again, the reason for the war was no expansion but to prevent Iraq from obtaining weapons of mass destruction as explained by the government and oil, as claimed by others.
The Korean War on the other hand was fought to prevent communism from taking over as the nation was suffering from the Red Scare. There were other political reasons but expansion was not one of them. American may have fought many foreign wars but they all had other political reasons.
My favorite city is Rio de Janeiro situated in Brazil. The reason why it is my favorite city is its diversity. The city has beautiful landscape, architecture, and culture. The city is represents new age and natural beauty at the same time. It has one of the largest football stadiums of the world and acceptable scientific productions. Yet it is somehow very close to nature. I personally find the Sugarloaf Mountain one of the most beautiful places on earth.
It contributes to my sense of place because of its diversity. The city is tech-savvy yet elegant. The architecture of the city reflects modernity, creativity, and modern culture, while its natural scenery is close to nature and soothing. I think is one of the very few places in the world that manages to be modern and calm at the same time. It is the kind of city which is very easy to adjust to because of its diversity.
